Opposite the castle, another world lies inside the rock. Built in 1941–1942, this artillery and infantry fort guarded the Chillon passage. Its museum now offers an interactive experience of the National Redoubt and soldiers’ daily lives.
Plan your visit
Museum open to the public. Check seasonal opening hours and book a time slot on the official website. The fort entrance is opposite the castle: these are two separate visits.
Enter an underground work linked to the defence of the Saint-Maurice passage. Tunnels and military installations reveal a once little-known heritage within the Rhône valley’s network of fortifications.
Plan your visit
In 2026, visits are temporarily possible by booking through Saint-Maurice Tourism, as access works have been postponed. Confirm access before travelling. The nearby Scex fort is listed as closed until further notice.
Dailly fortress offers an insight into underground artillery. CIPAD organises visits including Dailly–T2: a guided discovery of the installations and their history at an authentic military site.
Plan your visit
Booking is compulsory. Individuals select an available date; groups of ten or more contact CIPAD. The T2 visit lasts up to two hours. Bring a warm layer: the advertised temperature is 12–16°C.
A former fort of over 7,000 m² housed the Pyromin Museum, devoted to pyrotechnics and explosives. A place where military heritage meets the history of technology.
Plan your visit
Swiss Tourism lists the museum as temporarily closed at our check on 8 October 2026. It is included for its heritage interest; do not plan an interior visit without confirmation that it has reopened.
Embroidered curtains, shutters and a cat ramp: the chalet looks ordinary, but it is a fortification. A fake rock and a barn complete the camouflage. These works defended the Trient valley; they are in Valais, not La Forclaz in the Ormonts.
Plan your visit
The municipality advertises free access to the pass fortifications from June to late September, 10am–6pm: check options outside that season. Litroz fort can be visited on request by groups of ten or more. Combined guided visits can be arranged.
